My fury baby #1

Shortly after we move down south he's been itching like there is not tomorrow resulting in red ad raw skin. We have no choice but put an ecollar on him. So far in total we've already gotten him 6 ecollar! He's been wearing the ecollar since January now.

When we decided on the allergy shots I was really hoping and praying that it'll eventually work for him. It never worked for him and he's miserable. When I gave birth to my lil monster and was gone for several days he had an infection on his tummy. We didn't know about it until hubby bath him. I was crushed! I felt like a failure at that time because I felt like I've neglected him and the other two. I felt so horrible because all the time and energy I had I was only concentrating on my lil monster as I am a first time mom and I'm learning everything the first time.

However, we still continue the allergy shot hoping that it will help him eventually. Last month I took him to the vet again because he was now starting to chew on his back feet (since he was able to reach that even though he's wearing his ecollar). The vet flat out told me that he's infected and he's very miserable. He told me that no medication can cure him and that if we found one it would hopefully make him feel better. I was at a point of starting him another new dosage of medication (ditch the allergy shots). OR I could take him  back up North because when we took him back up north twice this year he was fine the few days we were there and he didn't need to wear his collar.

I was VERY desperate and I called friends I knew and truly trusted up North to see if they could keep him. My friends were all not able to keep him because mostly they all have too many pets of their own. My heart was crushed!!The only person now left is my in laws. Hubs asked them if they could take Stanley.

Mean time I told hubs to do some research on the new meds we were thinking of starting him on and the success rate on westies. DH happen to stumble across a non profit Westie Rescue organization near here and apparently they have helped many westie with skin allergies or diseases ( westie apparently are very notorious for skin allergies but how come I didn't read it when I was researching before adopting mine!!). I called her up and made and appointment to see her to same weekend.

Some of the puppies available for adoption (there are two that belong to her!)

I had my hopes high but hubs said don't incase I get disappointed which I understood but I could not help it! I wanted to keep #1 so bad! Saturday we left my little monster and the other #2 and # 3 with my mom and off DH and I went to see the lady. She had a few ( not all westies) for adoption! They were all so cute and yes I wanted to take one home (*slap face* what am I thinking!!) DH of course said NO considering we have 3 already.

Kathy ( the founder I think) said that he has yeast infection and we should test his thyroids too. She said a lot of doctors don't know what are they treating for and a lot of them treat them for allergies and it doesn't work. She is not saying that they do not have allergies but they are actually being treated for the wrong thing! She recommended us several things and suggested we try it if we want. Being so desperate we opted to get everything from her and try it plus gave her organization a donation since she took time to actually see my baby!

I see a great deal of improvement in him. He's still itching and Kathy said that it might take two course to cure him and we cannot take two courses of the meds at one go. We will do it for 60 days and then stop for  30 days and start 60 days again. The meds and the shampoo is not cheap but I'm truly hoping that it will help him.

Like I told DH is my first baby and I will do anything in my power to keep him. In desperation if I can send him up North and will make him not so miserable I will bite the bullet but at the mean time I will keep finding cure for him!

My three fury babies (My lil pumba (#1) in the middle of the two smaller ones)

If anyone or if you know anyone that would like to make a donation to any organization that has to do with dogs feel free to donate to Westie Rescue of Houston I've seen it with my own eyes that they help dogs. I told hubby even if she cannot help ours (which we don't know if is helping him or not) we should still help and make donations there.

  1. Awwww...i like the picture of the three of them cuddled up. I feel sad seeing Stanley with the collar too. Yeah I hope the next set of meds will work for him.

  2. We are still on the first course but he's still itching so I'm thinking he might need another course.

I hope he don't need to wear the collar soon! :(
